(22:29:29) Jake H: hey j
(22:29:33) Jason M: sup
(22:29:49) Jake H: care to take a gander at some more things?
(22:30:08) Jake H: i'm missing like.. 10 out of the middle... which sucks because i really liked them. i have them printed, but not the digital files.
(22:30:23) Jason M: k
(22:30:29) Jake H: http://jake.aluminumsun.com/thumbs.html
(22:30:33) Jason M: well scan em and put em in digital files
(22:31:02) Jake H: yeah, that's what i'm going to do :} my teacher is in posession of the prints
(22:31:20) Jason M: did u ever notice you draw everyone in the same proportion?
(22:31:30) Jason M: you need tons more proportions
(22:31:32) Jason M: wide peeps
(22:31:35) Jason M: skinny peeps
(22:31:36) Jason M: strong peeps
(22:31:39) Jason M: old peeps
(22:31:44) Jason M: athletic peeps
(22:31:46) Jason M: beautiful peeps
(22:31:49) Jason M: ugly peeps
(22:31:53) Jason M: the full spectrum
(22:32:13) Jason M: right now they are all kinda thin like u
(22:32:15) Jason M: :)
(22:32:20) Jake H: ahh ok. :P
(22:32:22) Jake H: yeah... bones.
(22:32:35) Jake H: i'm my best model
(22:32:40) Jason M: and you need more accurate anatomy suggestion in your sketching
(22:32:41) Jake H: har, but i see now.
(22:32:44) Jason M: no rubber arms
(22:32:46) Jason M: or rubber legs
(22:33:03) Jason M: bone, sinew, muscle....accurate suggestion even if simple
(22:34:10) Jake H: roger that
(22:36:08) Jake H: more detail in the thumbs. two that i did today that i think i did best are: this and this one
(22:36:42) Jake H: but, same body type as always. need more fatties.
(22:36:55) Jason M: you gonnna have to spend some time doing animal and creature anatomy
(22:37:04) Jason M: understanding how and why certain joints and muscles work
(22:37:06) Jason M: til u do
(22:37:10) Jason M: your suggestion will suffer
(22:37:19) Jason M: down with suffering!
(22:37:25) Jason M: anyhow
(22:37:28) Jason M: keep at it man
(22:37:34) Jason M: work on anatomy while u design too
(22:37:38) Jason M: both need to be solid
(22:37:42) Jason M: even if just suggested
(22:37:46) Jason M: i gotta run
(22:37:49) Jason M: cheers man!
(22:37:50) Jake H: alright man
(22:37:52) Jake H: cheers :}
(23:07:43) Jake H: really quickly (and i'm sorry to be disturbing you from your work) but, is it alright if at the begning, i can't get a full figure and design down in 10 minutes? like, i'm working on simplifying strokes and such, but at the end of 10 minutes, it looks very unpolished and forms don't all make sense. being more efficient is what i'm trying to do
(23:22:33) Jason M: well then u need a different process
(23:22:42) Jason M: make ten nice character body types
(23:22:44) Jason M: nude
(23:22:51) Jason M: for humans
(23:22:58) Jason M: short fat strong thin male female etc
(23:23:06) Jason M: then do quick designs on top of them
(23:23:21) Jason M: but honestly if you keep at it and keep pushing anatomy and such you will get it down
(23:23:29) Jason M: put fifteen mins into them
(23:23:45) Jason M: do an hundred and see if u can cut your time down
(23:23:57) Jason M: your foundations in figure and anatomy are still needing work
(23:24:17) Jason M: and that is your biggest problem with doing your figure thumbs....design must still be worked on
(23:24:19) Jason M: more study
(23:24:23) Jason M: more keeping at it
(23:24:29) Jason M: keep at it
(23:24:32) Jason M: im off
(23:24:36) Jason M: enjoy sir
(23:24:36) Jake H: alright
(23:24:40) Jake H: thank you sir.
(23:24:49) Jake H: cheers

the fact that j is going out of his way on his busy work schedule (which is PACKED) really makes me think. a few months ago, JtJ posted a bunch of concepts he did for some game at Mythic. the design marks were very cool, but the anatomy overall was pretty mushy (legs started up too high and they all had no crotch). and he got ripped into for having a lot of his designs and body types looking too similar and such. so much that if he was working elsewhere, he could run the risk of drawing things too closely to what he had did before, which would get into copyright troubles and stuff... yada yada. since j is giving me a lot of encouragement, it is helping me see that someone else believes in me, can see my flaws and can help me understand how to grow. it's like... j is setting the bar at the standard which he holds his right hand men at MB, and that he wants me to be that good. and i am working on becoming that good. j is the motherfucking shit. a mentor figure. more and more designs are to come. thank you.
